Cash for Cans

My son is a bit older now.

My son is a bit older now.

Aluminum cans needed for one pound are about 33, and now pay about $0.50 per pound (03/01/2010). Yeah, and people still throw them away, because each one is just worth about 1.6 cents. OK, well I have been able to collect about 110 cans per day, or 660 per week, while I'm on break at work at the factory. Yes, that equals 20 pounds per week, or $10.00 per week. I've done that for the past 9 months, so that is about $380.00. Money in the bank.

Since I am the father doing this collect work, I told my son that he can keep the can money, but he takes care of: the garbage can at home, the recyclables, and cat food/water and litter daily. He said OK, learns responsibility, and he gets the ATM money from the recycler company.

Great idea and way to teach your son responsibility!

Not only are you teaching him to look for creative ways to earn money, but you are also cleaning up your community and recycling. So the earth wins too!
