How to Calculate Debt?
A Simple Guide to Calculate your Debt


To get out of debt, you must know how to calculate debt. Below you will find a simple debt schedule that will show you how to calculate your debt. The steps to fill it out are also listed here. For more detail see the Calculate Debt page.

This is a sample Debt Schedule. It helps you see the details of all of your debt on one page. Don't be afraid of determining how much you owe, or looking at it straight on. With knowledge there is power. When you have power you can pay it off and stop being controlled by it!

Use this as your starting point to paying off your debt. Your starting point in your money management plan. Just like if you were planning a road trip, you have to know where you are to plan how to get to where you want to go. So dive in, keep your head held high, and learn all you can about your debt. Remember power comes from knowledge!

Steps for Completing the Debt Schedule

  1. Gather your outstanding statements together

  2. List your debt on the schedule

  3. Write down what you used the cards for – or the loans for

  4. Fill in the Limit for each credit card or loan you have

  5. Fill in the amount you owe on each debt

  6. Fill in the interest rate

  7. Enter in the monthly minimum payment

  8. Calculate what the minimum payment is each month

  9. Total each column to get a clear picture.
