How to Save on Groceries - The Advanced ClassIf you haven't seen the first video on how to save on groceries - Grocery Shopping Tips from Clarky Davis, the Debt Diva, watch it first. In the previous post, Clarky Davis of The Debt Diva gave us some basic tips on how we can save some money when grocery shopping. Now she will provide us with more advanced grocery shopping tips. She taught us in the last video how to make a shopping list and in the following video she will take us with her as she puts the plan into action. Here are the rest of her tips: Buy in bigger sizes. The cost per pound of items in family packs are significantly lower. You can also check out the shop stickers for more details or you can calculate the difference yourself using a pocket calculator or the one on your phone. Bring a pocket calculator. This is useful in knowing how much you will be paying before reaching the counter. Based on the total amount of the items in your cart, you will know whether you should splurge on some things or not. Shop alone. Having the family with you while shopping may be fun but this can also mean your kids will nag you for unnecessary items or will sneak in items in the cart. Resist temptation of marketing gimmicks, that is. Supermarkets is one place where marketing strategies are employed all over. From colorful signs to strategic displays of items, all these are meant to lure buyers to buy more. Look beyond the items placed at an eye-level. Reach high and low for cheaper items instead. Don't stick to branded goods. Some generic and store brand items are also comparable in quality but without the hefty price. Purchase in-season produce. This means they will be reasonably priced. If you buy fruits that are out of season, you will mostly likely pay three times more than when you buy them when they are most abundant. Check expiration dates. Some items have very short shelf life so buy the ones with the longest expiration dates. They will stay fresh longer so you will be able to avoid throwing them out before you can even use them. Following these simple tips, you can easily cut the cost of your groceries by up to 50%.
