Next Step in Managing Personal Finances:
Commit to Your Plan
The next step in the game of managing personal finances is to commit to
your plan! There is no point in
becoming your own
personal finance planner and create your plan and then not commit to it or
be disciplined with it
.
You won't reach your goals or dreams just by writing your plan down. Think about a football team. They make a plan for every game. Then most
importantly they commit to it and they follow it. No excuses, they work
as a team to carry it out!
You know what your plan is, you have worked hard to create it, however
none of it matters if you don't commit to it and carry it out!
Jack Canfield talks a lot about commitment in his book, "The Success
Principles, How to Get from Where You Are to Where you Want to Be", he as a
chapter entitled "99% is a Bitch; 100% is a Breeze". He talks about how it is
easy to follow any plan and have discipline if you are 100% committed. If
you are only 99% committed then it is hard! You have to have a "No
matter what" attitude.
"There is a difference between interest and commitment.
When you are interested in doing something, you do it only when it's convenient.
When you're committed to something, you accept no excuses, only results."
Ken Blanchard, Author of The One Minute Manager
Are you 100% Committed to Managing Personal Finances?
So take a minute and ask yourself and your team this question "Am I/ Are
we 100% committed to this plan and improving and managing personal finances?" If the answer is YES - then you are ready
to commit! If the answer is NO then go back through the other steps in the
personal finance money management game plan and come up with a plan that EVERYONE can commit
100% to.
Now you might be saying "I've committed to my finances 100's of times before
and nothing changed!" Be honest with yourself. In the past have you
really committed 100%? Have you thought to yourself "well it won't hurt if I buy
that one pair of shoes" Or "I can't be bothered to make dinner tonight - let's
order in or go out for dinner!"
You have to look at what your patterns were
in the past that made you fail, and be aware of them while following
your plan. By being aware of them you can stop them.
Commit To Your Plan
Commit
to your plan by signing a contract with yourself and your team! Post it
somewhere where you can all see it everyday. Each person should sign it
and have a copy to remind them of what they have committed to. Write down
what each team members responsibilities are and set up meetings to see
how things are progressing.
MAKE SURE YOUR PLAN IS VISIBLE - Visible is Memorable!
Once you commit 100% to managing personal finances it is easy and fun to
have the future you want!
You have created your plan and committed to managing your personal finances. The
next step is to learn how to make your daily choices and actions match your
plan!
