Once you have saved money - what will you do with it - Check out some
strategies to save money.
Look for Annual Passes
Phone your local zoo, museums, amusement parks or water parks and ask if
they have annual passes. Usually the annual pass costs less than 3 visits to the
venue.
Use Your Air Miles for Movie Passes
If you are a real movie buff and don't want to give up the experience of
going to the movies or you believe that there are just some movies that have to
be seen on the big screen (that's how I feel about some movies!), check any
points programs you have and see if they offer movie coupons. It could be good
value for you to use your points for movie tickets instead of air travel.
Buy Your DVD's and CD's Used
Or better yet borrow them from the library.
Look for Free Days at your local Museums
Many museums have free days, or lower priced days. Plan your visit around
those times. Go with a group - sometimes you can get a discount with a larger
group of people.

Car Pool When you Can
Car pool when you can to work or outings with friends or family. Even if
your schedule doesn't work out to car pool every day - do it when you can.
Maintain Your Car
If you maintain your car (regular oil changes etc.) you will pay less in the
long run. Less car troubles, and if you can show that you maintained it well,
you may get more for it when you go to sell it.
Wash and Vacuum your Car
Clean your car at home. You will save money and get some exercise. You could
even make it a fun activity with a loved one, or your kids.

Stop Buying Books, Borrow from the
Library
Do you read a lot, but never touch the book again after you have finished it?
Save the $10-30 for each book and borrow it from the library - Just remember to
get it back on time!
Purchase Quality
Sometimes buying a quality pair of boots for $90 that will last you 2-3 years
makes more sense than a cheaper pair that may not last the season - shop around.
Purchase at the End of the Season
purchase clothing - especially seasonal clothing - at the end of the season.
Just the other day I was walking through Wal-Mart (in September) and they had
swimwear for $4-7 each with a tag price of $25 to $30!
Barter with Others
Always look for opportunities to barter for the goods or services you require.
There are many sites which offer bartering services. This works really well if
you have a business or skills that many people want. Try it with landscaping,
computer configuring or house cleaning. Check out
U-Exchange.com for
a free service for people who want to barter goods and services.
House Swap
Oprah recently had a 2 couples on her show that were having a hard time
selling their house in the current economic climate. Each couldn't find buyers
for their homes. They found each other on the internet and swapped houses. Now
they both have their dream homes!
Avoid Buying Clothes that Require
Dry Cleaning
Look at labels when you buy your clothes. Make sure they can be washed and dried
in your own appliances. There are some amazing fabrics out there now that look
like dry clean only but are washable.
Quit Smoking
Do you smoke? Quitting smoking will save you a ton of money, not to
mention you will make your doctor and most likely your family happy! If
you smoke a pack a day and spend $5.50 on each pack, you will save over $2000
a year! Can you imagine how quickly you could pay off your debt and you
could
increase your length and quality of life!
